Change a Department to Private or Public

Within a department, all communication is visible to everyone in the department. There may be times when a department needs to be moved to a private or public setting. This can be done within the department settings. Keep in mind that if you're moving the department to public all content within that department will be visible to all users. 


Right click on the department's name in the left side panel and "Edit."



Toggle the private/public setting.



Click on "Save."



Alternatively, click on the department's name at the top



Click on ellipsis menu on the right side then select "Department details."



Toggle the private/public setting.



Click on "Save."



Owners, admins and mangers can also navigate to the "Workspace settings."



Click on "Departments and messages."



Click on "Department details."



Toggle the private/public settings.



Click "Save."



⚠️  A private department will be displayed with a lock icon in the left side panel. Additionally, on the top right side of the department's name, you can also find a designation that specifies whether the department is private or public.
