Application mode is optimized for communication and lightweight screen sharing. Use this mode to record applications or websites when smaller file sizes and quick sharing are priorities. Ideal for voice calls, product demos, bug reports, or walkthroughs where perfect visual fidelity is not critical.
Click on your profile icon in the bottom left side panel.
Click on "Settings."
Click on "Capture Settings."
⚠️ The "Capture settings" tab is exclusively available in the desktop app, which you can download here.
Navigate to the "Screen" tab.
Select "Application."
⚠️ The cursor will automatically be enabled when recording in application mode.
Set the "Capture Quality." This setting controls how clear and sharp your video will look. Higher quality means better resolution and more detail, but it can also increase the file size and may require more processing power. For example, use high quality for polished recordings or presentations, and lower quality for quick demos or basic tutorials.
Set the "Capture Rate(FPS)." This setting controls how smooth your video looks. A higher capture rate (like 60 frames per second) results in smoother motion, which is great for demos or animations. A lower rate (like 15–30 fps) uses less storage and works well for simple walkthroughs.
Choose the "Video encoder." The video encoder determines how your video is compressed and saved. We share more insight on the options in our guide here.
Choose the "Video format." This setting determines the file type your video will be saved as, and it mostly comes down to compatibility and performance.
- WEBM (default & recommended for most users). Its lightweight, fast to render, and uses fewer system resources. It’s ideal for older or lower-powered devices (like older Windows machines).
- MP4 is fully compatible with almost all devices, browsers, and media players, so it’s a great universal format. However, it takes a bit longer to process, especially on older devices, because it requires an extra encoding step.
Our recommendation:
For 99% of users recording in application mode, WEBM is perfectly fine. If you’re having playback issues or need broader compatibility, feel free to switch to MP4.
