Splitting a video segment is an essential technique in video editing that allows you to isolate specific sections of your footage for precise adjustments or creative enhancements. Whether you’re looking to remove unwanted parts, rearrange segments, or create transitions, mastering the art of splitting clips can transform your editing process.

In the “Video Editor”, position the timeline cursor at the point where you want to make the split.

When the timeline cursor is positioned at the start or end of a segment the message below will appear if you try to split the segment.

Select the “Split” tool.

By default, every segment in the timeline will be split.

To split only specific segments in the timeline, use the lock icon to secure any segments you don’t want to split.

Only unlocked segments will be split. For example, in this case, only the video was split since it was unlocked.

Remember to click “Save” once you’ve finished making changes.
